Spiritual wounds must be taken more seriously as we do physical wounds. Spiritual healing starts with humility and accepting God’s truth.

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18).

God came to heal the “brokenhearted.” The heart refers to our souls. Your soul is comprised of your mind, will, and emotions; the intangible part of your being. Technically, we are souls that possess bodies. God is the only one who can heal your soul; no other person can physically go in and fix it.

9 points about spiritual healing

  1. We need spiritual healing the most.
We need healing whenever there’s disappointment, abuse, mistreatment, fornication, rejection, loss, insults, disrespect, torment, or trauma. If we’re not protected, almost anything could cause a breach in our soul.
  2. We must accept the frailty of our hearts.
We must acknowledge our broken hearts. We tend to regard our physical condition above our spiritual state, but we must be protective and sensitive to this essential part of us.
  3. We must go to the Doctor.
When we realize we’ve been hurt, we must go to God and say, “I’m hurting, I need to be healed.” But people don’t go to God, because they don’t know him.
  4. Pride is another barrier to true healing.
We’ve been deceived into believing we’re supposed to be supermen (or superwomen), that we’re supposed to be unbreakable, and must be strong apart from God. With pride in place, we resort to unhealthy ways of coping with spiritual pain.
  5. Untreated wounds lead to death.
Just like a physical cut, if untreated, it can get infected and lead to more significant problems. Spiritually, when our soul’s get hurt, if not treated by the Doctor, our mind, will, and emotions will become infected, and this alters our life’s course towards death.
  6. Wounds start early in life.
The sin in the world and the devil are responsible for our many pains. He knows if he can hurt us at a young age, and there’s no one to tell us the God’s-honest-truth, our life will be destined for destruction.
  7. Lies keeps people sick.
The reason people stay sick is because they believe the enemy’s lies about life and how to cope with pain in their soul. Then, those wounds become infected and diseased, and in some cases, contagious.
  8. Wellness comes from accepting God’s truth.
Healing starts with being humble, believing we need help, and asking God for it. Healing begins with knowing and accepting the truth that God provides about our experiences, and this truth will make us free and well (John 8:32).
  9. We must repent, confess, and forgive.
Also, healing comes when we forgive those who hurt us (Matthew 6:14); and repent and confess our sins to people we’ve cut through of our spiritual sickness (James 5:16, 1 John 1:9).

How do you know you’re truly healed?

Some wounds take longer to heal than others, but the following signs may indicate you’re well:

  • You have moved forward in life.
  • You feel no more pain regarding the situation.
  • Your behavior is constructive instead of destructive.
  • You have no resentment, unforgiveness, or bitterness.
  • You have an inner peace about the situation and your exhibit the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22-23).

To be sure, we can verify our wellness by asking God. To protect ourselves from future harm, we must wear the breastplate of righteousness. The armor of God protects us from anything the world can throw at us.
