A study of the book of Proverbs chapter three verse eight.
7 Don’t ever think that you are wise enough, but respect the LORD and stay away from evil. 8 This will make you healthy, and you will feel strong. (vs 7-8 CEV)
Among the many rewards wisdom brings, a healthy body and pep in our step is another one. This scripture alludes to fact that if your body often feels weak, it may mean your body isn’t healthy. And when I read this scripture, food comes to mind. Our body’s state of health often has to do with what we eat.
So, in other words, if we respect God, and acknowledge that we don’t understand many things in this life (especially when it comes to food), he’ll begin to show us how to have a healthy body. He’ll tell us what to eat, what not to eat, and how not to eat – as we all know, gluttony is a sin. The Lord cares about every part of our being, and he has wisdom for us in this area if we are willing to yield to him.
I know this proverb to be so true because many people have leaned to their own understanding and don’t really understand the impact the food they consume has on their bodies. Diabetes is largely the result of poor eating habits. I have gladly received the wisdom of Lord in this area of my life and he has helped me to look younger and feel strong. I will not get deep into all the stuff the Lord showed me (that may be for another article), but I will give you some of it:
A little food wisdom
Eat whole foods, simple foods and basic foods: grapes, broccoli, pineapple, spinach, wheat bread etc.. Eat food raw and learn to enjoy the natural taste of the produce that comes from God’s green earth without all the salt and sugar. Exchange soda and coffee for 100% fruit juice. Consume lots of water and try drinking something other than fluids that are meant for baby cows. Greatly reduce the consumption of any kind of animal product.
Eat at home and eat out less. The less the food has been tampered with by man to preserve it, the better the food. You don’t have to get into knowing all the terminology on the back of labels, just understand that eating something planted and grown naturally is better than eating something that has a shelf life of 10 years.
Finally, understand that we live in a wicked world. Just because a doctor, or the health community says a food or product is good for you doesn’t mean it is. The medical organization is a business and they’d be out of business if people didn’t get sick. It’s best to consult God on what foods to eat. We don’t understand and there is a lot of deception used to keep us unhealthy, but the Lord loves us enough to help us in this area.
