A study of the book of Proverbs chapter three verses nineteen through twenty-six.
By his wisdom and knowledge the LORD created heaven and earth. By his understanding he let the ocean break loose and clouds release the rain (vs 19-20 CEV).
These verses give insight into the mass amount of knowledge and understanding God has to possess in order to create. We all know that God spoke the world into existence, but I often fail to realize that it all came out of much thought and planning. He thought about it, he understood it, and he constructed life to work perfectly and in harmony. The biggest feature of life on earth is its ability to duplicate itself. All God has to do is set it up once and the system, or program, runs on its own.
You have to be extremely knowledgeable to build a seed that draws its strength from soil and water, which grows into a huge tree that not only purifies the air, but gives shade from the sun and homes to various animals. I won’t even fathom how to design a cloud that changes shape, holds water, and releases it via some time-sensitive schedule. Consider the cells, molecules and atoms which are the building blocks of life – simply amazing. And out of all of this is not just a well working system, but beauty – what God designs is pleasing to the eye. Other than the beauty of a woman, nothing compares to a landscape, colorful animals and the sky and the moon at night.
All of life is ingenious and complex, and it took a huge amount of knowledge and understanding. What I like about God is: He didn’t gather this from a book he read. Knowledge and understanding emanate from him. There is no other place for it to come from – it originates from him. I could write about the wonders of his creation, but that would take a long time, so I encourage you to meditate on some of the things that God has created and understand his mind. God is not only smart but wise in how we made things operate. Life was a planned work of a mind that is beyond ours and we dare to think we know how to run our own lives?!
My child, use common sense and sound judgment! Always keep them in mind (vs 21 CEV).
This was stated in verses 1-2 of this Proverbs chapter 3, yet we hear it again. We learn by repetition so this is why the bible continues to repeat itself. The proverbs wants us to understand how extremely important it is to use common sense and sound judgment, and to keep it stored in our hearts. The proverb reiterates the benefits (CEV):
Helps you to live a long and beautiful life (vs 22).
Who doesn’t want a long and beautiful life.
“You will walk safely and never stumble” (vs 23).
This could mean: You’ll stay away from evil and you won’t fall into sin (or be blinded by sin).
“You will rest without a worry and sleep soundly” (vs 24).
Some people can’t sleep at night because of security, stress, bills and other issues. Knowing that God takes care of us is wisdom, and it will bring us sound sleep.
Protection from sudden disasters that plague the wicked (vs 25-26).
As learned in Proverbs 2:7, we must be living righteously to experience God’s protection. This verse also says that sudden disasters come because of the wickedness of certain people, or people groups.
God wants us to be happy. He wants us to experience all the things listed above. Even though we live in an evil world, we can still have an abundant life. All we have to do is keep wisdom embedded in our minds and never let it escape. Let’s obey God’s word and reap the benefits.
