God wants us to see money as just a tool and receive his joy instead of happiness. Happiness is temporal and dependent upon the things money can buy, but joy is not.
This message was for everyone, not just the rich. In this sermon, we exposed the reason for riches: to distribute to the poor and needy. The love of money is one of the greatest barriers to the kingdom.
God wants us to see money as just a tool and that he is the source of all our needs. With his provision comes joy, not happiness, which is temporary satisfaction which comes from the things money can buy.
The love of money leads to fear of losing it, dependency on it, sin to get it, hatred of God, and becoming a slave to it.
Scriptures we covered in this sermon: Luke 16:19-31; Mark 10:17-27; 1 Timothy 6:17-19; Ecc 5:10; 1 Timothy 6:10; Proverbs 30:8-9; Hebrews 13:5; Matt 6:19-34 (New Living Translation).
If we don’t settle for the truth that God is the sole sustainer of our needs, and not our ability to get money nor the temporal happiness it brings, we can’t enter his kingdom.
