In this testimony, JT shares how the Holy Spirit helped her submit to her husband and all the blessings that followed.

The following letter was sent to me by a reader named JT

You speak the truth in your men, women, and marriage series. I have read a book called Sarah’s Children, which has a very similar message. I just want to share a little testimony. Feel free to share this with any women who may contact you, who struggle with the idea of submission.

To Women:

I have read books and listened to sermons with a similar message to those at the Let’s Please God website in regards to men, women, and marriage. They are true! I can say I have made progress towards becoming a submissive wife, but it is hard, especially at first. It’s not a one-and-done thing. I have to pick up my cross DAILY, but the more I submit the easier it becomes.

If you are a follower of Jesus, and you feel a tightness in your body while listening to these messages or others like it, that is a sign of the battle within. That is the struggle between the flesh and the spirit. If there was no battle you would feel nothing. You would listen to the message, dismiss it, and move on with your life.

In order to win the battle you NEED the Holy Spirit. There is no other way to die to yourself and submit to male authority. You have to die to yourself! If you are already married to a Believer, count it as a true blessing because that will help minimize the pain of death, BUT you WILL feel the pain of death as you go through the process. There is no other way. There is a beauty in going through the process, however.

You will experience God’s grace in an undeniable way. I had a struggle with something that my husband wanted me to do that I did not want to do. It was not a sin, but it required me to give up what I wanted. What I wanted wasn’t a sin either. It was an honorable desire, but my husband wanted something different.

It was hard! I cried. I was angry. I was hurt. I resented him. I asked God “Why?”, BUT I obeyed. God opened a door to give my husband what he wanted, and I walked through. He blessed me in so many ways. I excelled in the situation. God gave me favor with people. He gave me wisdom and ideas. He covered me when I made horrible mistakes.

I discovered abilities and gifts that I didn’t realize were in me. I was able to help my husband and my children as a result of my obedience. I would have missed so much if I had said “No,” and my marriage would be unstable at best.

It is possible to do this, ladies. It is painful, but if you let the Holy Spirit lead you, you can do it! I am still in the war, but God is merciful. He doesn’t send the big battles every day. Winning the small battles can help you face the BIG battles.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1:12).
